MORE than 30 drivers have been fined in less than two weeks for ignoring a sign that has been in place since 1968.

West Yorkshire Police's Leeds North-West Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) posted on its Facebook page about motorists who had been driving on a road illegally in the past 12 days.

The route in question is the bottom part of Old Pool Bank, in Pool-in-Wharfedale, between Pool Bank New Road (A658) and Leeds Road (A660).

The road is access-only, meaning you can only use it to access premises off that road - be it because you are a resident, are visiting someone there, or are delivering something.

But Leeds North-West NPT had been notified of people using the road over the past couple of weeks as a cut-through.

Officers have issued 32 fixed-penalty notices for contravening the rule since October 10.

The access-only order has been in place for more than half a century - since 1968.

A spokesperson for Leeds North-West NPT said: "The signage is clear, and the access-only order has been in place since 1968 so not a recent change!

"We will continue to monitor this, so please do not risk getting a fixed-penalty notice & do not use this road as a cut-through."
