A MAN has been jailed for a theft and an assault at a branch of Greggs at a Bradford train station.

Omar Iqbal Malik, 36, of HM Prison Leeds, was jailed for a total of 10 weeks for two offences.

In the first, theft from a shop, he was committed to prison for four weeks for stealing three hot sandwiches, to the value of £6, from Greggs, Bradford Interchange, on June 6, 2022.

Malik was committed to prison for six weeks, to run consecutively, for an assault by beating charge. This offence also took place at Greggs, Bradford Interchange, on June 6, 2022. He was also ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge for this charge.

Malik was jailed because the offence was deemed so serious due to his record of previous offending. A collection order was made.

He was also convicted for two further counts of racially/religiously aggravated harassment/alarm/distress by words/writing.

Malik was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a £22 victim surcharge for these two charges, which took place in Huddersfield in April and May this year.

Malik pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced at Bradford & Keighley Magistrates’ Court on October 19, 2022.
