INNOVATIVE noise cameras to crack down on Bradford’s engine-revving boy racers have divided public opinion.

The first camera has been deployed in the Fell Lane area of Keighley to identify excessively loud cars and the use of illegal exhausts.

Fans of the trial began naming roads currently being used like a race track, adding “About time”.

Residents suggested the cameras would be well placed in Manningham Lane, Hamme Strass, Drewton Road, Thornbury roundabout, Bingley Road, Bingley Main Street, and Lister Lane.

But others questioned the timing of the Government spending £300,000 amid the cost of living crisis.

Here’s what T&A readers had to say about the scheme so far.

Charmaine Scaife said: “We need them at Thornbury roundabout in Bradford, sick to the back teeth.”

Dannyal Ahmed said: “We are already in a crisis we don’t need this.”

Saghir Khan said: “This will probably pick up the noise from my old Diesel engine. Fine incoming.”

Nicole Fletcher said: “Out of curiosity, what will happen if you develop an issue with your exhaust while driving? This happened to me and I sounded like a boy racer, couldn't get it into a garage until the following day but couldn't just abandon it in the middle of the road.”

David Goodwin said: “About time. They’re just a nuisance. No respect for other people.”

Brendan Horner said: “Bradford one of the worst places for uninsured drivers, where insurance quotes are a joke but no we won’t do anything about that we’ll just set up another money grabbing scheme.”

There is a line of cars and someone is revving at the back of the line so is the camera going to take a picture of all the [cars?] Ineffective, inaccurate and in a court of law thrown out.”

Jackie Morrow said: “About time, something getting done.”

Dannyal Ahmed said: “Too many cry babies ow it’s noisy get your windows fixed.”

Sam Deakin said: “How about for the fireworks that go on forever.”

Jeanette Ellerton said: “One question for the few who seem to have no problem with the loud revving, is there a need for it? I see it as a form of aggressive driving so get the noise cameras on, maybe driving will improve.”

Michele Riches said: “Just because a car sounds good doesn't mean they are boy racers driving it. At least you can hear it coming unlike these electric cars.”

Vija Emilija Kazaka said: “Then maybe invest money wisely and open [a] track where this is allowed and people can actually enjoy it.”

Nik Oakden said: “Waste of time and money. Should be spent on policing.”
