Police have warned ‘no insurance means no car’ after seizing a car in Shipley.

West Yorkshire Police’s Shipley NPT flagged the vehicle down on Cottingley Moor Road as part of Operation Steerside.

The Toyota was being used by a male delivery driver despite only being insured to a woman.

The delivery driver was on his way to deliver a food order when he was stopped by officers.

The car was seized and the delivery never made it to its destination.

The force left a poster on the back of the car which read, ‘No insurance means no car’.

It is a prosecutable offence to use a motor vehicle on a road with no insurance.

Penalties can include a fixed penalty notice and points on your license, a substantial fine, and even a disqualification from driving.

Police have powers to seize and, in appropriate cases, destroy vehicles that have been driven whilst uninsured.
