MURPHY the dog will be making a special appearance at a Bradford supermarket this weekend to kick off an annual fundraising remembrance event for animals.

The Siberian husky shot to fame back in 2014 when he disappeared, believed stolen, from his home in Bradford. He was later found safe and well.

The Murphy's Army Purple Poppy team will be at Morrison's, Victoria Shopping Centre, Girlington, on Saturday, October 22, from 10am and 4pm with a selection of their purple poppy goodies. Murphy himself will attend from noon to 1pm.

Known as Ambassadors of Animal Remembrance in the UK, Murphy's Army began their campaign in 2016 and has raised over £100,000 for related animal causes.

Andy Smith, Murphy’s owner, said: “The purple poppy is a symbol of remembrance for animals.

“We honour those who served in conflicts past, and those who serve us today.

“We are very proud not only to have spread the word about the significance of the purple poppy but also to have helped many former service animals along the way.”

Beneficiaries from this year's campaign are the National Foundation for Retired Service Animals, Hero Paws - Life After Service, Murphy's Army and the They Also Served Memorial Fund.
