ON October 20, 1965 the Telegraph & Argus reported on a new pub that had opened on Tong Street.
The De Lacy was built in stages, replacing the old Imperial pub that had occupied part of the site.
The T&A reported: "Two thirds of Tetley's new pub was completed and opened to the public before the demolition of the old Imperial could take place.
"The new building offers the latest furnishings and fittings, to ensure the comfort of all who use it."
Why was the name changed from the Imperial to the De Lacy? "Tetley's felt that the new public house should have afresh start and a name that was 'Bradford', and nothing could be more Bradford than De Lacy - the name of the family whose connections with Bradford go back to before the Domesday Book."
