A MILKMAN who led the police on a ‘dreadful and frightening’ pursuit across Bradford has been spared an immediate jail sentence.

Mohammed Zuhaib, 28, of Mavis Street, Barkerend, Bradford, had passengers in his VW Golf when he accelerated off down Leeds Old Road on February 6.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on Barkerend Road, Feather Road, Leeds Road and Buck Street and failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis.

Bradford Crown Court heard today that he had shown a blatant disregard for the safety of other road users.

His barrister, Nicola Hoskins, said he was filled with remorse. He was prepared for the prospect of custody and attended court with his bag.

Zuhaib was married with two children but there was a breakdown in the relationship and he fell into negative company. He had lost his job as a milkman and brought shame on his family. He was now reconciling with his wife and she was in court to support him.

Recorder Anthony Kelbrick said the way he drove that night was dreadful and frightening.

Zuhaib was jailed for 14 months, suspended for 18 months, with 20 rehabilitation activity days and 200 hours of unpaid work.

He was banned from driving for three years and he must pass an extended test to get his licence back.
