A MAN who ‘ran amok with an axe’ during a psychotic episode has been sentenced to a two-year community order.

Abu Majid, 31, of Manningham Lane, Bradford, pleaded guilty to affray, causing actual bodily harm, three offences of criminal damage and having an offensive weapon, all committed on March 2.

He was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court today on a video link to HMP Leeds where he was remanded in custody.

A five-year restraining order bans him from having any contact with four people who were subjected to his actions in the Manningham area.

Recorder Anthony Hawks said Majid, of previous good character, was ‘not a bad or vicious person.’ He ‘ran amok with an axe’ during a bad episode of mental health breakdown after not taking his medication.

His barrister, Jayne Beckett, said Majid was now much improved and his family were in court to support him.

He was now stabilised on his medication and nothing like this would happen again.

He would go and live at the family home on his immediate release from custody and then look for his own accommodation.
