A BRADFORD music venue is staging an event tonight in a final bid to raise funds to save it from permanent closure.

Sally Brown’s on North Parade announced earlier this month that it would be closing with ‘immediate effect’ after being open since November last year.

It is set to hold what is being billed as its official last event, called ‘The Last Skank, at the venue between 7pm and 1am tonight. DJs and staff are all working for free at tonight’s event to help towards the cause.

The post on the Sally Browns Facebook page states: “Today is officially our last day ‘The Last Skank’ and our doors will be closed permanently.

“I’d like to highlight that all of these DJs are giving up their time for absolutely FREE, our staff are working absolutely FREE in a final bid to save Sally Brown’s from permanent closure.

“As mentioned our current turnover is achieved from mainly Friday and Saturday nights only, however there is absolutely massive scope to open seven days a week and we know what to do.

“We’ve had this planned out for a while but didn’t have the funds to execute our plan.

“We are certain that if we raise enough money tonight and with the crowdfunder still rising we will be able to stay open and come back bigger and better than before!

“We just need a little bit of help!! We’re so close.”

Owner Steven Davis cited several factors that contributed to his decision, one of which he said was a certain “negative attitude and mindset when it comes to Bradford that seemingly prevents any growth”.

Speaking to the Telegraph & Argus earlier this week, he said: “Any funding will help us to get back on track to re-focus, re-align and allow time to secure additional loan-funding for us to ensure we open throughout the week.

“Currently all revenue is accumulated from just Friday and Saturday nights, we have some great plans that will enable us open through the week that will ultimately increase revenue and stabilise the business.”
