THE owner of a shop selling hand-made home fragrance items is introducing a weekly late-night shopping event as she expects a busy build-up to Christmas.

Patten Home Gifts started as a home-based business in July 2020 for owner Carissa Patten.

The business quickly grew and she is now trading from a shop on Kirkgate in Saltaire.

The shop stocks a host of goods including candles, wax melts, room sprays, bath bombs and other household goods.

Carissa makes and sells her own home fragrance items and also stocks goods from a host of Bradford district-based businesses including Baxters Bath Bombs, Goddess and Moon and Saltaire Print Maker.

She says demand for her products is already strong with many shoppers looking for Christmas presents. Carissa will be open later until 7.30pm on Thursday nights for a few weeks from November 3 to meet festive demand.

The shop is also stocking a host of Halloween-related products including pumpkin spiced candles. This item, which has proved popular among online shoppers, has a scent which is a mixture of pumpkin, cinnamon, clove and musk All of Patten Home Gifts’ home fragrances are handmade using vegan and cruelty-free ingredients.

Shoppers can also create their own gift boxes from scratch, filling them with products from inside the store.

The shop, which opened last January, also has a presence on social media platforms including Instagram and TikTok.

Carissa says customers who come to her shop can smell some of the items before opting to buying – an advantage over online shopping.

She said: “People can smell the items before they buy.

“Seeing physically in a shop means they can do that. I’m trying to support other makers across the district. I want to get other people’s names out there as well.

“It’s just been growing since I opened the shop. I had outgrown my garage and my living room at home.

“The shop has been going well. We had to shut the shop for a month during a flood earlier in the year.”
