A HOST of industry-leading companies joined staff and students to celebrate the opening of MetFilm School Leeds.

The world-famous school is investing over £6m over five years in bringing the new campus to the north.

More than 200 guests were invited to the celebration, held at the Archive Café at Leeds Prime Studios.

“It is a wonderful privilege to be MetFilm Leeds’ first ever principal and see the energy and creativity that the students are already bringing to the new campus,” said Dr Paul Gormley.

24-year-old Ryan J Smith, from Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, is a former student at MetFilm School and is now film company director. He said: “MetFilm School Leeds is a positive step for the north’s screen industry - it seems like a no-brainer.

“As someone who’s had a lot of experience with MetFilm School London, at Ealing Studios, both as a student and now as a working filmmaker, it’s exciting to see them branch out and be open to more northern talent.

“My hope is that it will inspire more and more people to roll up their sleeves and get shooting.”
