VICTIM Support West Yorkshire, funded by Mayor Tracy Brabin, is launching a new service to support victims of stalking.

It comes after a 200 per cent rise in the number of stalking victims referred to them over the past year.

From today, the charity’s new West Yorkshire Independent Stalking Advocate Service will offer specialist support.

Tracy Brabin has provided a grant of £425,000 to fund the service, which is set to run until March 2025.

The service is free and confidential, and victims don’t need to have reported to the police to access support.

Tracy Brabin said: “Stalking is a horrendous crime and has a truly debilitating effect on victims.

“I am absolutely committed to ensuring our communities are safe and West Yorkshire is just and inclusive.”

Lesley McLean, Victim Support Area Manager for West Yorkshire, added: “We want all victims of stalking in West Yorkshire to know that this is not something you should have to live with, and our team of specialist support workers are here to help.”

To get support victims can call 0300 3730978 or email WY_ISAC_Service@victimsupport.org.uk.

They can also contact the charity’s national 24/7 support line on 08 08 16 89 111.
