A BRADFORD man has been jailed for 21 years for what a judge called "significant sexual abuse".

Christopher Harris, 52, of the Clayton area of Bradford, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on Friday to 21 years in prison for sex-related offences on multiple victims.

The offences included a rape, an attempted rape, and indecent assaults on children.

Judge Andrew Hatton sentenced Harris based on "compelling evidence” given by the victims.

The Judge said: "You were selfish and obsessed with sex and your sexual desires.”

Harris will also not be allowed to work in employment with any child under the age of 18.

Judge Hatton said: "I expect you will serve somewhere between half and two-thirds of this sentence before being release on license, which will remain on for the length of your 21-year sentence.

"You will have an ongoing obligation to notify police of your whereabouts."

Speaking after sentencing Detective Inspector Helen Dixon, of the Bradford District Safeguarding Unit, said: “This is a significant sentence which reflects the nature of the offending carried out by Harris.

“We hope it will also encourage other victims of sexual abuse to contact our safeguarding officers, who will investigate each report sensitively and thoroughly to bring perpetrators before the courts.”
