A SALTAIRE veterinary practice is rallying round to raise awareness about a rare condition after a much-loved colleague received a life-changing diagnosis.
Tanya Matejak is adjusting to living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) after learning in June that she had the condition which affects the brain and nerves.
Tanya has stepped back from her role as a receptionist and right-hand woman to the practice manager at Avenue Veterinary Group, where she has worked for more than 14 years.
Colleagues and friends are now pulling out the stops to lend support by fundraising for the mother of two and her family while also raising awareness of MND.
A team from Avenue Vets is taking on a 30-mile sponsored walk along the Leeds to Liverpool canal tomorrow (Sunday, October 9).
Leanne Ward, a veterinary nurse at Saltaire, is also organising a raffle to boost the final tally.
Leanne said: “We made sure Tanya was happy with what we were doing. She has seen the fundraising page and is overwhelmed.
"The response has been amazing. We couldn’t believe it."
Raffle tickets cost £1 and can be bought from the Bingley and Saltaire practices. The raffle will be drawn in December.
