OUT of the ordinary achievements are becoming quite the norm for Bradford's Emon Choudhury.

After winning BBC Two's Race Across the World with nephew Jamiul last year, Choudhury has continued to push the boundaries and he now has a list of achievements that anyone would be proud of.

April saw the Saltaire star conquer his biggest test yet - running a marathon during Ramadan - to help raise £100,000 to build a school for disadvantaged children in Nepal.

September saw Choudhury take on the Great North Run, however, last week was perhaps the pinnacle of the Bradford man's journey so far.

On Friday September 30, the 2021 Race Across the World winner was crowned regional Pride of Britain champion following his devotion to raising money for orphanages in Third-World countries.

On a similar note, Choudhury was invited to The Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh, to meet the Royal Family, likewise following his outstanding charity work-a day after he'd completed his first London Marathon on Sunday October 2.

Reflecting on a crazy few days, Choudhury said: "It's been incredible and it has completely blown me away to be honest. On the Friday when I got awarded with the Pride of Britain, that massively surprised me because I wasn't expecting to win it at all.

"They turned up at my house and handed me the award and I was completely baffled by it. During the week they were revealing the other nominees and there was some incredible people, like really, really inspiring people. I was thinking I didn't have a chance when I saw some of their stories, so when I won it I immediately thought about them; it was a team effort."

Choudhury added: "The London Marathon was amazing too; something that I've wanted to do for a long time. To be around so many people in such great spirits, it really was something to behold.

"It was another great celebration of the Queen's life, and as I ran down the mall, I felt such a sense of pride and elation to be involved in such a historic event."

Choudhury's meeting with the Royal Family on Monday (October 3) was his "biggest" highlight to date and he admitted that he was left star struck after his visit to Edinburgh.

He said: "First of all, I received an extremely posh letter through the post and I was extremely confused as to what it was. I opened it and there was the invitation to come and visit the Royal Family in Edinburgh; I was shaking with excitement. I honestly thought it was a prank," Choudhury joked.

"Thankfully, I rechecked the date because I was in such a state of shock when I opened the letter that I didn't realise the meet was the day after the London Marathon. With all the train strikes going on, I had to drive seven hours after my marathon but it was well worth it.

"It was surreal when I got there and got to meet them. Charles (King III) was telling me how impressed he was with me getting to Edinburgh after the marathon. I was very nervous but it was one of them pinch me moments; I couldn't believe I was standing with the Royal Family and having a conversation with them. It's a memory that will last forever, for sure."

Choudhury will make a return to the London Marathon in April, 2023.
