A BRADFORD businessman said it was an "absolute privilege" to meet King Charles III and the Queen Consort in his first official reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse this week.

At the reception in Edinburgh, the King met with around 300 members of the South Asian community, including Bradford businessman Luqman Rashid.

Mr Rashid said: "The event was His Majesty's King Charles III and the Queen Consort's first official reception.

"He recognised the success the South Asian community has made in the UK.

"This event demonstrates his commitment to South Asian community. It was in recognition of all the work we've been doing.

"King Charles lll conveyed his gratitude and recognised the work we do at Hillcrest Wealth Management, which is a partner in practice with St James's Place Wealth Management."

Mr Rashid spoke about Hillcrest supporting its clients through the financially turbulent times, such as the pandemic.

He said: "As a business we play many roles in the community. We are committed to the community and beyond through our charitable arm of the business which underpins our values.

"We are humbled by the recognition," said Mr Rashid. "It was an absolute privilege and honour to be a part of their first reception as King. It was quite momentus.

"I also talked with King Charles about Bradford being named as the 2025 UK City of Culture.

"It was great for the city to win the bid. We need to have more levelling up funding to bring further prosperity to the city.

"I also extended an invitation to King Charles to visit the city in 2025.

"We also discussed Impact Hub Bradford, Kamran Rashid and the great work this social enterprise is doing with the West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, BAME business committee and its agenda of levelling up opportunities for the BAME community."

Mr Rashid spoke of his pride about living and working in Bradford.

"Bradford is important to me. I was born and bred in Bradford, so I'm passionate about my home city.

"At this reception I was representing my business and my hometown of Bradford.

"It was great to be recognised for the work we are doing in our business. I'm absolutely delighted.

"This event will stay with me as a memory for a long time."
