THE Bradford-based founder of an urban fashion brand says he is looking to grow his business after sealing a deal with the Jamaican team for the Rugby League World Cup.

RISLondon, co-founded by Trey Terrelonge, has been named as the official headwear supplier for the Jamaican team as they make their first appearance at the sport’s showpiece event, this time held in England.

The deal means that the Jamaican squad will wear RISLondon-branded baseball caps and beanie hats during training sessions and warm-ups before matches at the World Cup.

Jamaica are seen as underdogs in the tournament in a group with New Zealand, Ireland and Lebanon. Jamaica start their World Cup group C campaign with a clash against Ireland on Sunday, October 16 (kick-off 5pm) at Headingley Stadium, Leeds.

The squad, nicknamed the ‘Reggae Warriors’, became the first Caribbean nation to qualify for a Rugby League World Cup. Their squad includes Keighley Cougars players Bradley Ho and Mo Agoro.

RISLondon, which stands for revenge is sweet, was co-founded by Mr Terrelonge five years ago. He says he is honoured to produce headwear for the Jamaica squad and hopes the exposure and attention they will generate during the World Cup will lead to a bigger platform for his firm.

Mr Terrelonge, 28, added he was proud to have teamed up with the squad, particularly due to his Jamaican heritage through his mother and grandparents who were born there. He added Jamaica squad were given a preview of the finished products.

He said: “The reaction to the Jamaica deal has been overwhelming. It’s a surreal feeling. It’s a big thing. I had a lot of big brands to compete with. It is amazing.

“This is the biggest thing to happen to me in my career. My mum and grandparents were born in Jamaica.

“It’s a monumental ask for Jamaica for them at the World Cup. Hopefully they will get the support they deserve. I have grown up following the Bradford Bulls.

I started this brand and it’s all led to this moment

“I just didn’t expect this. The Jamaican team has seen the hats and love them.

“I grew up in West Bowling. Some people are completely written off because of where they come from.

“I have always been competitive from a young age. I dream big. I always dream of the brand being really big.

“This is something that I wanted to influence a younger generation. It’s not about where you’re from, it’s about your mindset.”
