FIVE males are in custody following additional search powers being introduced in Huddersfield last night.

The males, aged between 17 and 25, have been arrested during the temporary stop and search powers for multiple offences including possession of a bladed weapon.

Increased stop and search powers which were put in place in parts of Huddersfield have now come to an end.

The order has since been rescinded following no further incidents in the area overnight however information will continue to be assessed and further authorities will be put in place to help prevent incidents if necessary.
Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector Graham Dyson of Kirklees District Police said:

“Enquiries are continuing with colleagues in CID regarding the incident on Riddings Close yesterday afternoon.

“On behalf of the local community, we cannot tolerate violence of this nature which puts people at risk and causes understandable concern to the law-abiding majority.

“Making proactive use of increased stop and search powers under Section 60 gives officers an increased ability to target those involved in carrying weapons so we can prevent any further offences.

“We are determined to keep doing everything we can to disrupt, deter and bring to justice those who involve themselves in this type of criminal behaviour, and I hope people will continue to be supportive of the approach we are taking.

“Officers will remain in the area on patrol and are on hand to speak to anyone with concerns.”
