THE Council has been asked for an update on when action can be expected from the Government on rebuilds of the district’s hospitals.

Councillor Paul Godwin (Lab, Keighley West) raised the issue ahead of Bradford Council’s Full Council meeting on Tuesday.

“I know the Leader has previously written to Government to make the case for much-needed rebuilds of our district’s hospitals, including Airedale which is in desperate need of urgent repairs to its roof as a bare minimum,” he asked in a written question.

“When can we expect action from Government?”

The deteriorating state of Airedale has prompted urgent demands for action.

Keighley's town mayor, Councillor Luke Maunsell, recently said: "I offer my sincere support to any effort to secure Airedale Hospital's future by guaranteeing its rebuilding.

"I urge the Government to get behind Airedale Hospital and give it the life-changing 'treatment' it needs."

Keighley MP Robbie Moore has spoken in Parliament on the issue.

"Since being elected I have made absolutely clear my view that Airedale Hospital needs and deserves a rebuild," said Mr Moore.

"Whilst it continues to provide an exceptional service to my constituents, the structural risk of the building is too great – meaning a rebuild is essential."
