BRADFORD Council said it will review its prevention measures after travellers moved onto a “much-used” park.

Scores of caravans have moved onto Knowles Park, which is off Tong Street, blocking a swathe of land and public footpaths.

A Council spokesperson said they were aware of the encampment and the legal process to clear the site has begun.

They added: “Unfortunately, public and staff access is needed for this park which makes it difficult to secure against these sorts of intrusions but we will review our prevention measures to see if they can be improved.”

Councillor Matt Edwards (Greens, Tong) said: "This is a very frustrating issue for residents. Knowles Park is a much-used park by people living in Holme Wood and it's really important that they are able to use it without worrying about loose dogs and feeling intimidated.

"However, the big problem here is that Bradford Council is failing to provide any safe space for travellers to camp safely - especially in the South of the city.”

Cllr Edwards said he has been in regular contact with police and neighbourhood services.

He added: “Once they leave the park, Councillor Hickson and myself are going to have some challenging discussion with our parks team to ensure the park is safely secured."
