A FORMER Olympic medalist from Pudsey is set to star in a hit ITV celebrity programme at the start of next year.

Gymnast Nile Wilson announced he will be one of the contestants for Dancing On Ice via his YouTube channel.

Speaking about taking on the challenge Wilson said: “I’m going to be on ITV’s Dancing On Ice! This is a really cool thing.

“I’ve certainly not done much ice skating but I am so excited for the opportunity.

“I’m so excited to get into that routine and to feel like an athlete again.”

On what he hopes to bring to the ice, the 26-year-old added: “My biggest goal on the show is to do something that no-one has ever done before!”

Wilson - who attended Farsley Farfield Primary School and Pudsey Grangefield School - won an Olympic bronze medal in the men’s horizontal bar at the Summer Olympics in 2016.

He announced his retirement from gymnastics in 2021 due to injuries following a successful career.

On the show, Wilson will join Love Island winner Ekin-Su Culculoglu, former Premier League footballer John Fashanu and soap actresses Patsy Palmer, from Eastenders, and Mollie Gallager, of Coronation Street fame.
