A COUPLE are today launching Keighley’s first bespoke cocktail bar – which will also be a bistro - and The Telegraph & Argus took a sneak-peek.

Alan and Holly Pennell officially open No.3 Bistro & Bar, in Oakworth Road to the public at 5pm on Friday.

It has been a painstaking 12 weeks to get the premises ready for launch but the couple are feeling positive now the big day is just around the corner.

Mr Pennell said: “We’re really excited, we’re just in the final stages, getting everything ready in there.

“We’ve just picked up uniform, made by a local company.

“We’re working hard, we’re dedicated, and just coming through the last few weeks.”

The work – which took slightly longer than expected - has included reconstructing the kitchen in part but Mr Pennell said the building was “pretty much set up” when they bought it.

Mr Pennell said: “We looked at it, we loved it and we wanted to do food.”

The couple have also refurbished the seating area, decorations and lighting, for a stylish finish.

The premises was formerly The Lemon Tree Café & Bistro, a tapas bar and restaurant, but is taking on a fresh direction under its new owners and will include a unique feature in the future.

Its bistro side will provide affordable family meals and Mr and Mrs Pennell have already released a teaser of the bar’s menu on its Facebook page, which includes burgers, loaded fries, homemade pies, pasta and special dishes, such as Korean Chilli Belly Pork and Chicken Parm.

But upstairs in the building is a function room that the couple are just about to turn into a speakeasy cocktail bar.

Mr Pennell said: “We don’t know of another cocktail bar in Keighley.

“There’s plenty of pubs, and I’m not saying they don’t do cocktails, but dedicated to it.”

They hope to hold small events there, functions and bottomless brunches.

The pair are experienced business heads, running Cottingley Diner for almost five years – a café and their first experience in the industry – and having just sold their previous venture this week, which they had run for three years.

Family and friends will got an exclusive experience of the premises yesterday evening before the cocktail bar and bistro opens to everybody else tomorrow night.

Mr Pennell said he hopes it will be busy and that it is an exciting moment, while Mrs Pennell admitted to feeling nervous.
