A MAN found in possession of a knife in a Huddersfield park has been sent to prison.

Police arrested Adnan Hussain after being called to Greenhead Park on 29 August, following reports that a group of masked men had been seen with a knife in the area.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police’s Operation Jemlock attended the scene and located a group of men wearing balaclavas.

Hussain was subjected to a stop and search and was found in possession of a large kitchen knife.

He was charged with possession of a bladed article and remanded.

Appearing before Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday 28th September, Hussain, aged 22, of Cobcroft Road, Fartown, who admitted the charge, was sentenced to 22 months jail.

Speaking after the sentencing Chf Insp James Kitchen, who leads Operation Jemlock, said: “I want people to understand that if they make the decision to carry weapons of any kind onto the streets of West Yorkshire, then they might not be returning home for the next 22 months, or even longer.

“Hussain left his home address and was stopped by the police, the knife was found, and he was arrested.

“He was taken straight into police custody, then to court and then to prison.”

“It is never acceptable to have a knife or bladed object of any kind in your possession. We have seen on too many occasions the tragic consequences to people who will never get to return home due to the actions of those who carry weapons.

“We are determined to stop the carrying of weapons of any kind and the courts are fully supportive of the police in sentencing those who choose to do so.

“Operation Jemlock uses ever improving evidence-based analysis, intelligence, and GPS to put officers in the right places at the right times.”

“With over 52 hotspots across West Yorkshire and carrying out thousands of extra hours of patrols each week, if you carry a weapon, we will find you.”

“If you know someone who does carry a knife, educate them, inform the police, or tell crime stoppers. It might save them at least a 22-month prison sentence or could even save their life.”
