THREE men who worked at a Bradford care home for people with learning disabilities have been accused of ill-treatment.

The men were care workers at Cranbourne House, on Cranbourne Road, Daisy Hill, and the incidents are alleged to have happened between July 1, 2020, and October 27, 2020, against four men who lived at the home.

Mohammed Abdul-Rehman, 32, of Owlet Road, Shipley, appeared before Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court yesterday to face two charges of ill-treating/wilfully neglecting a person without capacity.

It’s alleged he had the care of two men who lacked, or who he reasonably believed to lack mental capacity, and ill-treated or wilfully neglected them.

He denied the offences and the matters were deemed unsuitable to be tried at the lower court.

Abdul-Rehman will next appear at Bradford Crown Court on November 1 and was granted unconditional bail.

Qumar Rafiq, 49, of Bolton Lane, Bradford, was also due to appear. He faces a single charge of ill-treatment/wilful neglect against one man.

His case was adjourned until October 12 due to him being away on a pre-booked holiday.

Armaan Khan, 22, of Lytton Road, Girlington, did not appear and a warrant was issued by the court.

He faces four charges of ill-treatment/wilful neglect against four different men.

Cranbourne House is run by Heathcotes Group and is described as a “specialist residential service for adults with a Learning Disability who may have dual diagnoses and associated complex needs”.

According to its website, the home has eight en-suite bedrooms and provides twenty-four-hour support.

“There is a self-contained flat within the residential service for individuals that would benefit from high levels of support in their own environment,” says the website.

“Service users may have spent long periods of time in a hospital setting or may have additional complex needs including sensory impairments and communication difficulties.”
