A STREET dealer who crashed his car during a police pursuit in Bradford has been jailed for more than six years.

Mohammed Khan, 39, accelerated away from officers when they tried to stop his BMW on Harrogate Road, Eccleshill, last month, but Bradford Crown Court heard today (Tuesday) his vehicle flipped into the air as he weaved through mid-morning traffic and ended up crashing into a telegraph pole.

Khan, of Bangla Walk, Bradford, was arrested at the scene and when officers searched him and the vehicle they found about 200 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine and seized over £600 in cash.

Following the incident on September 3 Khan subsequently pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing Class A drugs with intent and an offence of dangerous driving.

Prosecutor Philip Adams said Khan, 39, was a so-called “third strike” drugs offender having been jailed for four years in 2007 and three years in 2015.

That meant he faced a minimum prison term of seven years less a discount of 20 per cent for his early guilty pleas.

Today, Judge Jonathan Rose jailed the married father for five years and eight months for the drugs offences with an additional six months imposed for the dangerous driving.

Khan was also banned from driving for a total of 52 months and he must take an extended retest.

Judge Rose also made a deprivation order in respect of the BMW.

Barrister James Bourne-Arton, for Khan, said his latest offending had undone all he had achieved since his last sentence in 2015.

He explained that following the sudden death of Khan’s brother a group of individuals had approached him and told him that a debt of £11,000 had now passed to him.

Mr Bourne-Arton said they made it plain they would keep attending at his home until the money was paid back.

Judge Rose said the prospect of Khan facing a minimum seven-year jail term had not deterred him from re-entering the world of Class A drugs.

He said Khan had reverted to criminality at a very high level and chose what he thought was the easy option.

Judge Rose said Khan’s mother, wife and children would suffer as a consequence but the only person to blame for that was himself.
