A BRADFORD MP has given her thoughts on a Government U-turn which will see the city included in a £98 billion integrated rail plan.

Naz Shah, Labour MP for Bradford West, welcomed Prime Minister Liz Truss’ announcement that Bradford will get a new station on the high-speed rail line which will be built between Liverpool and Hull.

Ms Shah said that including Bradford in the Northern Powerhouse Rail plans was a “no-brainer”.

Ms Truss said she was “very clear” that the line will stop at Bradford, and that further details will be revealed in due course.

Ms Shah said: "This is a hugely welcome U-turn from the Government.

“Northern Powerhouse Rail with a Bradford stop was a no-brainer by all indicators and it's hugely important that it is back on the agenda.

"Northern Powerhouse Rail allows Bradford to unleash its true potential by connecting our northern towns and cities, creating thousands of jobs and making Bradford’s rail network fit for the 21st century.

"I have worked tirelessly alongside other Bradford MPs to campaign to get Northern Powerhouse Rail for Bradford and I will continue to hold the Government to account to ensure it is finally delivered in practice, and not just in more Tory broken promises and empty words."
