HERE is a look inside a new convenience store in the Bradford district which has opened up to customers for the first time today.

Tesco Express store on Saltaire Road, Shipley, has welcomed customers through its doors in a prime location and is located on a busy road which connects Shipley and Saltaire.

People were given a free Tesco-branded tote bag on arrival when the shop opened up to customers at 10am.

The store’s shelves and large fridges are packed full of goods including pizzas, bread, milk, alcohol and flowers.

It features tills in the far end of the store, flanked by a Lottery kiosk and the site also has three card-only self-service till machines. The site also sells a selection of newspaper and magazines. It has a 10-space car park outside the store, including one bay for disabled parking.

Staff were busy getting the store ready for customers when the Telegraph & Argus was given a sneak peek inside just before it opened.

Steve Charlton, the store’s manager, who has been with the supermarket chain since 1997, says he was delighted the site can open up to customers.

He said: “It feels great to be open.

“People can expect a clean, friendly store that they can get everything they need from.

“It is in a good location and is on a busy road.

“We’re hoping it is going to be very busy. Hopefully, we will get plenty of passing trade. It’s a really nice shop. This is my second Tesco shop in Bradford. I have worked at one in Leeds city centre before.”

“We are doing this while still offering the community our best service and broad range of products such as fresh food and food to go – and we look forward to welcoming our first customers.”

Building work has been taking place on-site over the last few months as the Tesco site replaces the since demolished Northcliffe Garage.

Tesco also plans to help out residents in Shipley after opening its store in the town.

Community groups in and around Shipley are invited to apply for community funding through Community Grants, Tesco’s blue token voting scheme (formerly known as Bags of Help) which sees three local projects voted on by customers in-store every three months, with first place awarded £2,000, second £1,000 and third £500.
