West Yorkshire mayor Tracy Brabin has returned from a trade mission to India having secured multimillion-pound investment for the region.

The Bangalore-headquartered global technology and business process outsourcing company, Mphasis, has announced the creation of 1,000 new jobs in West Yorkshire.

The investment, which will be worth tens of millions of pounds to the West Yorkshire economy, will boost Mphasis’ existing presence where it has a workforce of 500 based in Leeds.

It is expected to be completed over the next two years. This builds on the company’s creation of a UK centre of excellence in Leeds for its insurance clients in 2021.

Embarking on the first post-pandemic Metro Mayor trade mission to India, Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, visited Mphasis’ global headquarters in Bangalore and met with senior representatives to discuss the project and partnership opportunities.

Ms Brabin said: “I’m delighted that Mphasis has chosen to invest millions of pounds here in West Yorkshire, and proud to have them as part of our business community and partners in driving the region forward.

“These 1,000 new jobs will have a transformative impact on our economy and create exciting career opportunities for the people of West Yorkshire.”
