Time stood still in Wibsey in October 1970 when horses and carts clattered through the narrow village streets, as they had done for hundreds of years previously.
The T&A reported at the time: "Horse dealers haggling over prices and tousle-haired boys riding bareback through the village were all part of the Wibsey Horse Fair.
"Mr S Hanson of Tong told the T&A that he had been going to Wibsey Horse Fair since he was a young boy. 'You get to know who wants to buy and who wants to sell,' he said.
"There was also a story about a fair dance in the room above the Upper George Inn which got so packed, the ceiling gave way and half a dozen pairs of legs were left dangling over the bar."
