ALTHOUGH Bradford Council has called the launch day for the Clean Air Zone (CAZ) on Monday a successful one, questions still abound for some residents who have expressed concerns about signage and other issues.

A Bradford Council spokesperson said: "The launch day was a successful one, we saw many drivers paying for their journeys for the day and also paying ahead for future trips.

"Typically customers can pay six days before the day of your visit, on the day of your visit or up to six days after the day of your visit."

However, one Bradford business owner has spoken out about the need for signage on the M62 near the exit to the M606 to warn people they will be coming into a Clean Air Zone.

The Bradford business owner, who did not want to be identified, said once a driver gets on to the M606 there is not a good place to turn around and by the time they arrive at the Staithgate roundabout they will be entering the Clean Air Zone at the exits (Wibsey and Newhall).

He said: "The major problem you have is you go off the M62 onto the M606 and then you have no place to turn around before you get to the roundabout.

"There's nowhere to go, so when you do get to turn around it will be too late.

"There should be signs on the motorway to warn people.

"I do mountains and mountains of travelling and I go all over the place.

"I have two vans but I've managed to get an exemption but I'm just thinking about the other people this is going to affect.

"This is badly thought out."

A spokesperson for Bradford Council said: "At the area near the M606 drivers can use Rooley Avenue or Staithgate Lane without entering the CAZ, they can also come off and go around the roundabout and back on the M606.

"The council has worked with Highways England on signage on the M62 and M1.”

The council has also talked about how it has signed roads in other parts of Bradford.

The council spokesperson added: "All signage for the Clean Air Zone is designed and positioned in accordance with DfT guidance.

"All approaches to the zone are signed, warning of the zone ahead.

"The Clean Air Zone is designed to discourage entry by non-compliant vehicles, thus reducing emissions from these older commercial vehicles within the zone and improving air quality and health."
