A BURGLAR who raided £20,000 worth of electric bikes from a family-run business has been jailed for 14 months.

Christopher Kelly had pocketed a set of keys while visiting the Cycle Factory on Der Street, Todmorden, Bradford Crown Court heard today.

He returned later on January 17 with two accomplices to unlock the gates and the main door and make off with six electric bikes worth over £20,000.

Recorder David Gordon was told that the stolen bikes had never been recovered and even following his arrest, Kelly had not helped with any information to find them.

The day after the burglary, Cycle Factory posted CCTV footage on Facebook that had many responses identifying Kelly, 45, of Turf Lane, Chadderton, Greater Manchester, as the culprit.

He went on to plead guilty to burglary.

Vincent Blake-Barnard, for Kelly, said he had gone to the factory to look round and the taking of the keys was opportunistic.

Recorder Gordon said there was some degree of planning and Kelly had brought a van to the premises to carry away the bikes.

He will now face a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing next year to try to recover some of his ill-gotten gains.
