NEWS of a £50m bid for a major refurbishment of Odsal Stadium led us to dip into the archive for this photo of the rugby ground in 1937.
Odsal Stadium opened in 1934, with the T&A reporting that 20,000 people attended to watch Bradford Northern play Huddersfield:
“A crowd of such magnitude has not been seen at a rugby match in this city since the war and it is up to Northern to strive hard to produce a type of football that will maintain interest evinced on Saturday.
“They have now got a good, big ground and plenty of proof was forthcoming on Saturday that the support is there if the quality of play is sufficiently high.”
* Last week the T&A reported that Bradford Council, the Rugby Football League and Bradford Bulls are making a joint-bid for a major refurbishment of the stadium, as well as a new rugby league skills centre, park and ride car park, sports pitches, hotel and solar farm.
