A BRADFORD man destroyed a business shop front and police alarm and assaulted a woman.

Benjamin Briggs, 30, of Stone Street, in the Sandy Lane area, pleaded guilty to four charges at Blackpool Magistrates' Court last Friday.

These were: two counts of criminal damage to property under the value of £5,000, assault by beating and harassment without violence.

Briggs was sentenced to a community order and to pay compensation for the offences, on the same day.

The charges related to two separate days, last month and earlier this month.

The 30-year-old was in Blackpool at the end of August when he beat up a woman.

That same day, he damaged a glass panel on the front door of a housing company, that manages properties in the area.

This was valued at £350, so Briggs had to pay that amount in compensation, as well as £100 to the woman.

Briggs then pestered the same woman with unwanted phone contact a month later, in September.

Court records said he "pursued a course of conduct which amounted to the harassment" of the female victim.

He also destroyed a £750 police alarm that belonged to Lancashire Constabulary in Blackpool on the same day.

Briggs has been forced to pay for the full amount of the police property but does not have to pay any further compensation to the woman.

He was also handed a restraining order in relation to the female victim.

The 30-year-old must not contact the woman directly or indirectly, by any means, and is forbidden from entering two streets in the Blackpool area.

This order lasts for two years, until September 22, 2024.

Briggs's community order includes three features.

He must carry out 40 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months.

He must also participate in a 'Building Better Relationships' programme for up to 35 days and an accredited programme for 30 days - all before September 9, 2024.

In total, Briggs has been ordered to pay £1,200 in compensation to the various parties.

This must be paid by October 21 this year and an application was made for the £450 in relation to the assault by beating charge to be deducted from Brigg's benefits.

There is no surcharge to fund victim services or costs linked to this offence as priority has been given to the compensation, court records show.

Briggs's guilty pleas were taken into account when sentencing.
