A family which unknowingly lived near a cannabis farm in Queensbury have shed light on the impact of drugs on communities.
West Yorkshire Police raided a house on High Street on August 31 and discovered equipment, plants and piping inside.
The force has urged anyone with information about the operation to come forwards while the leftover remains are cleared from the building.
The scale of the cannabis farm operation can be seen in a huge pile left outside neighbouring properties.
And now, on top of the eye sore, residents in the area are facing ongoing leaks in their cellars.
One neighbour said: “People joke about weed farms but it affects the people they’ve done it near. It’s family homes, it’s not just abandoned houses. They want to make some money but they’re damaging other people. It just makes me mad.
“It’s [the pile of drug-related waste] only got bigger in the last few days.
“When the kids are getting water and stuff you can see it.
“Whatever they were doing they were very busy.
“It’s been really suspicious."
Describing what happened on the night of the raid, the neighbour said: “There were two police standing at the front watching the house. There were two vans parked on High Street through the day. I’d only seen one cop and some men stood with boards. There was a final officer stood at the door. There was one with a torch looking into the cellar. It got boarded up nearly a week later.
“Someone knocked on my door and said my basement has flooded. I looked at mine and mine was flooded.
“I’m going to see what my landlord says but it can’t be left as my electrics down there.
“I’ve had this flood since Sunday, it’s risen. They’re ruining my house now.”
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Enquiries are ongoing.
"Any information about the cannabis farm or anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area is asked to contact 101 or via the LiveChat facility."
