A MAN faces a bill of more than £650 after dodging a train fare on a journey between Doncaster and Bradford Interchange.

Ben Lowe, 36, of Argent Way, Bradford, faced a charge of travelling without paying the fare.

He travelled between Doncaster and Bradford Interchange without previously paying the fare of £19.80.

Court documents state: “On Wednesday, April 27, 2022 the defendant made a rail journey from Doncaster to Bradford Interchange.

“During the journey he was asked by the Revenue Officer to produce a valid ticket, this he could not do. Further, the defendant could not pay for the journey he was making.

“He was issued with an Unpaid Fares Notice in good faith so that he may pay the outstanding fare within 21 days.

“However, the defendant failed to make payment within the prescribed time period, subsequently a reminder letter was sent to him requesting payment, as no payment was received a final reminder letter was then sent to the defendant.

“Again he has failed to communicate or to acknowledge this reasonable request, as a result of which the fare remains unpaid.

The offence was proved in Lowe’s absence. He was fined £440, ordered to pay costs of £150 as well as a surcharge of £44 and compensation of £19.80.
