A PRIMARY school that shut a year group this morning has now been forced to close entirely until next week due to vomiting.

Denholme Primary School, in Minorca Mount, Bradford, has decided this afternoon to completely shut the premises for two days for a deep clean.

This was on the back of advice after a high number of pupils and staff were sick, so to prevent the illness spreading throughout the school and wider community.

Students have been given schoolwork so they can learn from home and parents and carers have been provided with staff contacts if they need any support.

Malcolm Campbell, Denholme Primary School Headteacher, and Wahid Zaman, Chief Executive of Nurture Academies Trust - which the school is part of - said: "We have had a high level of cases of vomiting affecting pupils and staff.

"To prevent further spread through the school and our local community we have taken advice and have decided to close the school for two days to implement a deep clean.

"Children have been set work so they can continue their learning at home.

"Families have been provided with staff contacts if they need help or support.

"We would like to thank the community of Denholme for their support."

The school announced earlier this morning that its Year 2 class - named "Willow" - was closed for the day due to "a virulent sickness bug and staff shortages".

It said all parents and carers would receive an email with updated information and the school has had to now take more drastic action.

Denholme Primary had 235 students on the school roll at the time of its last Ofsted inspection in November 2019.

It joined Nurture Academies Trust in February 2017, alongside three other Bradford district schools - Lapage Primary School, in Barkerend Road, Parkwood Primary School, in Parkwood Street, Keighley and Victoria Primary School, in Cartmel Road, Keighley.

The trust then welcome two more schools for the city: Byron Primary School, in Barkerend Road in July 2018 and Fearnville Primary School, in Fearnville Drive, Laisterdyke in November 2018.
