AN unauthorised car-meet organised in a Bradford industrial estate was “somewhat of a failure” due to police involvement.

The Euroway Industrial Estate has been targeted by car enthusiasts for unauthorised meet ups in recent years.

At a meeting of the Bradford South Area Committee members will hear what police and Council wardens are doing to tackle the issue.

A report to the committee, which meets on Thursday evening, says the site is popular due to its proximity to the M606, making it easier for motorists across the country to gather.

It says dealing with vehicles which come to the area to race is a priority for police in the Wyke ward, and work is underway to secure funding for CCTV and traffic calming measures.

The report reveals that police intervened when they discovered a meet was planned in June this year.

It said: “Intelligence was received in June regarding a car meet due to take place in Bradford involving groups from outside West Yorkshire.

“Early intervention was undertaken by Operation Steerside including direct engagement with the organiser in Humberside.

“Additional resources including roads policing units were put in place for the night in question as well as neighbourhood resources at likely locations.

“The Euroway was an obvious target. This event did come to pass as advertised but was very proactively policed to the point that at times we were arriving at locations before the car meet.

“Over a period of a couple of hours, and several locations, the car meet was declared something of a failure on their social media pages and they left the area.”
