A MAN stole a mobile phone and jewellery worth almost £2,000 from his mother and grandmother.

Nathan Hill, of Brighton Street in Heckmondwike, committed three offences earlier this month.

On September 1, at Fairmoor Way in Heckmondwike, the 27-year-old stole a mobile phone and jewellery, to the value of £1,670.

He also stole a phone and a cash card from another woman, worth £140, at the address on the same day.

On September 13, Hill failed to surrender to custody at Kirklees Magistrates' Court.

He was committed to prison for eight months but this was suspended for 18 months.

The court said the offences were so serious because they were thefts from his mum and grandma.

He has also been issued with a one-year long restraining order to not enter the aforementioned address.

Hill, who has to pay £100 in compensation to each woman, appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 15.
