A WOMAN faces a bill of more than £630 after dodging a train fare on a journey between Saltaire and Bradford Forster Square.

Lorna Tait, 21, of Mint Street, Bradford, faced a charge of travelling without paying the correct fare.

Court documents state: “On Friday, March 11, 2022 the defendant arrived at Bradford Forster Square having travelled by rail from Saltaire.

“Arriving without a valid ticket to travel the defendant purchased a ticket from Frizinghall to Bradford Forster Square.

“The station at Frizinghall is closer to Bradford Forster Square and reflects a cheaper fare.

“The defendant was informed that there were staff in place at Frizinghall and anyone boarding there would be in possession of a ticket or voucher.

“The defendant then admitted that she had in fact travelled from Saltaire.

“Her details were obtained and she was advised that the facts would be reported. Following the incident a letter requesting an explanation was sent to the defendant, as there was no response a Fixed Penalty Notice was then sent, this remains unpaid.”

The offence was proved in Tait’s absence. She was fined £440, ordered to pay costs of £150 as well as a surcharge of £44 and compensation of £3.40.
