PEOPLE on a Bradford estate are being urged not to “jump to conclusions” after a man suffered serious injuries.

Broadstone Way, in Holme Wood, has been blocked off for much of today (Monday) while police probe the incident.

Anyone with information about what happened is urged to contact West Yorkshire Police.

The alarm was raised at around 5.20am today, when police received a report of an injured male on the major road through the estate.

Officers attended the scene and found a man with a serious hand injury.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “He received treatment at the scene and was taken to hospital for further assessment.

“His injuries are not life-threatening. Following enquiries, a 19-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and remains in custody at this time.”

The road is cordoned off between Knowles Lane and Landscove Avenue, so drivers have been forced to take alternative routes through the estate.

Councillor Matt Edwards (Greens, Tong) told the Telegraph & Argus: "I know people in Holme Wood will be concerned with another road closed following an incident.

"A violent incident like this is actually fairly uncommon on the estate and the police have already made an arrest.

“I would ask people to not jump to conclusions as I'm sure more information will come out soon.

"As ever, if anyone has any information please do get in touch with the police."

One man told the Telegraph & Argus: "It's the same old thing round here.

"You feel like you can't let your kids out of your sight.

"My eldest, he walks to school and when there's something like this you feel alarmed. It's one thing after another."

Another resident added: "You get used to it around here. It's scary for the kids."

One woman said: "The police aren't letting on what's happened."

"I grew up here, but it was never this bad," she added.

The woman said she woke up to see the cordon early this morning and was told by a neighbour that someone was taken away in the back of an ambulance at around 6am.

West Yorkshire Police said: “Anyone with information which may assist enquiries can contact Bradford District CID on 101, or by using the LiveChat on the West Yorkshire Police website.

“The crime reference is 13220530357.
