TELEGRAPH & Argus readers are divided over a £50 million bid to transform Odsal Stadium and make Bradford a rugby powerhouse.

Bradford Council, the Rugby Football League (RFL) and Bradford Bulls are making a joint-bid for a major refurbishment - as well as a new rugby league skills centre, park and ride car park, sports pitches, hotel and solar farm.

Among its promises is the “once in a generation opportunity to break the cycle of poverty” in the area and usage for music and sports events, including boxing matches.

The vision won the hearts of some Bradfordians, who said it would be a “great asset to Bradford”.

But many raised questions on the true cost of the transformation and what it would mean for the newly-listed Richard Dunn Sports Centre, saved from demolition for its “bold and accomplished design”.

Others asked how it would align with the popular plans for stock car racing events on the stadium's freshly-laid track.

George Rothery said: Could be? Will never be more like.

John Rushworth said: Believe it when you see it, how many schemes have been proposed/talked about since the early 70s for redeveloping Odsal? I'm still waiting.

Clifford Martin said: If you believe this, you should be able to KNIT FOG. Been happening since they closed the residential place behind the main stand.

Heather Fawcett said: Can't remember how long they've promised to develop this site and it's not happened yet. Maybe they could incorporate a race track for all the boy racer, keep them off the roads. Also they could make an off road trails bike track to replace flappits. They need to create something that actually pays for itself.

Matthew Taylor said: Bad idea it's not a stadium built for events like concerts. Develop it for rugby like it was originally built for.

Susan Dubej said: Believe when I see it, they never have spent money on Odsal Stadium, all the fans deserve a roof the stand in the rain, snow and the cold. I hope this goes to plan other stadiums have a roof why can't the Odsal it would be good for Bradford.

John Poole said: Could only be good for RL and would certainly put Bradford back on the map, it is in my opinion a great city.

Neil Sutcliffe said: Architect done a lovely job with the picture but forgot to draw in the listed building, Dickie Dunns.

Steven Reed said: Never happen, I remember them saying stuff like this in the eighties, more chance of me getting to the moon. They are only applying for 50 million not 300 million, which this would probably cost.

David Bird said: Why make Richard Dunns a Grade II listed building, hasn't that just made it impossible for development?

Keith Jones said: Indoor stockcars and speedway...great idea!

Tim Hanley said: Hard to get enthusiastic about this, has been so many false dawns.
