Despite taking the lead in their first ever West Riding County Sunday Cup final, West Bowling went down 3-1 to Thornhill Lees of Dewsbury.

Chris Hanney scored for the Bradford Sunday Alliance Premier Division side with a long-range shot in the seventh minute.

But previous winners Thornhill then took control of the match and equalised on 16 minutes through Nathan Kemp.

The Dewsbury team then had a seond goal disallowed for a foul in the build-up but it was only a matter of time when they would score again and Craig Gomersall headed home after Bowling had failed to clear a free-kick.

West were lucky not to concede a third when keeper Ivan Willis came charging out but Bowling managed to scramble the ball to safety.

Whatever was said in the Bowling dressing room at half-time certainly seemed to work because they were an entirely different side in the second half and were much the better team.

Only three superb saves by Lees goalkeeper Lee Hird kept the Dewsbury team in front.

The woodwork came to the rescue of both teams in the final quarter as play swung from end to end but with eight minutes to go, bad defending by Bowling allowed Kemp to notch his second goal of the night to send the cup back to Dewsbury.
