Police are appealing for help after a weekend of violence and anti-social behaviour in Otley.

The most serious incident saw two visitors to the town, along with a passerby who came to their aid, assaulted by a group just after 1am on Sunday after leaving the Rose and Crown pub, in Bondgate.

The attack left one man with a broken jaw.

Around the same time, police believe drunken revellers were to blame for leaving a trail of havoc along Crow Lane that included scratching cars and breaking their wing mirrors.

Intruders, meanwhile - also in the early hours of Sunday - broke into the Wharfedale & Airedale Observer's currently unoccupied Otley office in the Orchard Gate shopping complex.

Otley Police Sergeant Stewart Beck said inquiries into all the incidents were continuing, but appealed for the public to help.

One of the group suspected of carrying out the assault was a white male with dark, spiky hair who was wearing a dark green and white, hooded stripy top. The other description police have is of a white female who had a dark bob-style haircut.

Police Community Support Officers had been informed of the Orchard Gate break in and asked to pay the area extra attention. Lead thieves recently targeted the roofs of several businesses in the centre.

Anyone with information on any of the incidents that took place over the weekend can contact Otley Police on (01274) 471458 or call the Crimestoppers number, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
