Westminster Primary pupils have received praise from Captain Planet this week.
Children at the Westminster Road school hope to transform it into an institution dedicated to all things green - and ease their impact on the planet.
School spokesman Lorraine Horsfall said pupils were now organising activities which they hoped would give the school specialist Eco School status and help staff and parents also become more aware of their environmental footprint.
She added: "The children are now looking at a range of green issues including energy, litter, healthy living, water use, bio-diversity, school transport and waste."
Westminster has already created its own nature garden in which pupils can grow fruit and veg.
The school also has a number of recycling monitors who collect waste paper from classrooms on a regular basis.
