A hungry man stole a packet of cheese and a pork pie while on bail for a similar shop-lifting offence, magistrates heard.
Michael Taylor of Holker Street, Keighley, who admitted the theft, appeared at court in Bingley from the cells after being arrested on Monday for stealing the food from Morrisons in Keighley.
Prosecutor Abid Ali said the 22-year-old committed the offence while on bail awaiting a court appearance for stealing a bottle of vodka and a pastie from Sainsbury's in Keighley, on April 12.
Keith Blackwell, for Taylor, said his client had been a victim of another tenant who had been helping himself to his benefits. "He literally stole the food for his next meal," said Mr Blackwell.
Taylor was given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay £40 court costs.
