Five creative students from Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College were given a VIP tour of the Yorkshire Building Society's Bradford base after winning a poster contest.

The students were part of a group of more than 180 young people from the Thornbury Road school who took part in a Personal Economics Programme with the help of YBS volunteers.

The scheme, launched at the society's headquarters in December last year with help from Young Enterprise Bradford, provides a practical insight into economic and business life in order to help youngsters build their self-esteem, develop their financial skills and prepare for the world of work.

As part of the day, pupils were split into teams of five and asked to design a poster promoting personal finance guidelines for young people.

Robert Matthews, co-ordinator of the YBS volunteer scheme called Actionteering, said: "Three one-day programmes have now been held since the launch and all have been very well-received by the young people involved."

Liz Hardaker, community relations manager for Young Enterprise Bradford, added: "It is fantastic to see Bradford-based employers such as Yorkshire Building Society building a relationship with schools in the local community.

"The real-life experience of the Society's volunteers has really helped students to understand the world of business and personal finance and I'm sure the winning team's visit to Yorkshire's headquarters will broaden their understanding of the world of work."
