A man who says he was hit with a baseball bat outside a Bradford takeaway has accepted that footage from a mobile phone contradicted some of his account.

Peter Wilkinson was celebrating his birthday 16 months ago when he and his brother, Stewart, were allegedly hit with the bat by 29-year-old Patrick Martin during a confrontation outside Ravi's Takeaway in Thornton Road.

Martin's barrister Richard Gioserano suggested to Peter Wilkinson that he, his brother and his brother's wife Patricia had attacked his client and that Patricia Wilkinson had hit the defendant with the bat.

Peter Wilkinson described to Bradford Crown Court how his brother was hit with the bat on his head before he intervened and was also struck.

He claimed he and Martin fell over and he broke an ankle and could not get up.

But after watching the film he accepted it showed himself standing up together and, with his brother and Patricia Wilkinson, "having a go" at Martin, who was on the ground.

Mr Wilkinson conceded that the footage contradicted what he thought had happened that night, but he added that the film showed Martin as the victim when that wasn't the case.

During re-examination by prosecutor Simon Myers, Mr Wilkinson maintained that Martin had started the violence by hitting his brother.

Martin, of Thornton Road, Bradford, has denied causing grievous bodily harm to Stewart Wilkinson and wounding his brother with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Patricia Wilkinson disputed Mr Gioserano's claim that the film showed her hitting his client with the bat. She said it showed her taking the bat from the man and then throwing it to the ground.

During re-examination Mrs Wilkinson said none of her group had gone out with a baseball bat.

The trial continues.
