The distinctive noise of an up-and-coming band will be heard by millions of gamers across the world as their song is featured on a new computer game.

Bradford's White Light Parade have managed to bag a spot on the playlist for Grand Theft Auto 4 with the aptly titled Riot In The City.

The song, the b-side to their latest single Wait For The Weekend, was picked out by Rockstar Games to feature on the game, released today.

Danny Yates, 24, the band's singer and guitarist, said it was a fantastic opportunity.

He said: "It's always been something we have wanted to do, really. We have always looked out on games like Fifa and GTA for songs and bands, and thought it would be brilliant if we could get one of our songs on a game, because a lot of the time it helps launch careers.

"The whole idea of being in a band, I think, is to be successful and to have as many people as possible to hear your music, so this is a great step forward and a great opportunity for us."

The band learnt of Rockstar Games' interest in using the song after a representative from the company contacted them through their MySpace site.

Danny said: "We didn't know if it was true really, but we thought we might as well go for it, and it turned out the guy who contacted us was one of the main guys there.

"He said he really liked our single and was really interested in using the b-side for the game.

"We said yes straight away and then signed all the contracts and stuff!"

The game has traditionally featured action, adventure and driving as well as role-playing and stealth elements. It concentrates on one player making his way through the criminal underworld of a fantasy city.

It has gained controversy for its adult nature and violent sequences.

Danny said the song would fit in well with the nature of the game.

He said: "The song has a bit of a political slant to it - it's about the things we are going to see in the future, with crime on the streets and how it is a shame that nobody really seems to be doing anything about it.

"So I guess with those lyrics it's quite fitting with the game."

The song is expected to feature on one of the many in-car' radio stations the game's fans have come to know and love.

Songs which feature on the game will also be downloadable by gamers using the Playstation 3.

l White Light Parade release their second single, Turning All The Lights Down, on Monday, May 19. They will be at the Love Apple on Friday, May 2, and support Ash at St George's Hall as part of Bradford Music Week on Friday, May 30.
