A man who punched a woman in the face, breaking her jaw in two places, has been locked up.

Jason Stirk, 41, of Brayshaw Field, Low Moor, Bradford, pleaded guilty to causing Katie Deacon grievous bodily harm.

Miss Deacon, 23, was attacked without warning by Stirk as she sang along to a CD at a friend's house on November 20, Bradford Crown Court heard today.

He punched her three times to the jaw, causing her to fall back into her chair.

Miss Deacon was taken by ambulance to Bradford Royal Infirmary where she needed surgery to implant two metal plates in her jaw.

The court heard that Stirk had regarded Miss Deacon as his girlfriend and tattooed her name across his chest.

She had seen the relationship as casual and had broken up with him.

Stirk told police he had taken amphetamines and could not recall hitting Miss Deacon.

Stirk has previous convictions for threatening behaviour, violent disorder, assault, possessing a prohibited weapon, harassment and affray.

The court heard he had been convicted of assaulting a woman by dealing "numerous blows to her head and body".

Stirk's barrister, Sukhbir Bassra, said it had been a volatile relationship with Miss Deacon.

Drugs had made Stirk mentally ill. He was now rational and had insight into his behaviour.

Judge Roger Scott jailed Stirk for two years.

He said he was a dangerous prisoner who must serve two years on licence when he is released.
