THE Yorkshire Cricket Foundation (YCF) has won an award for inclusion for young people.

The foundation's Wicketz programme, in partnership with Lord Taverners, was awarded the Scope’s Inclusive Activity Award.

The award, previously named the Inclusion Quality Mark, recognises activity providers who are inclusive and accessible for young people.

Matthew Crookes, YCF's Wicketz Development Officer for Leeds and Bradford, said: "We will continue to work in partnership with Scope, and our Wicketz programme will constantly be reviewed and improved in the future to ensure it remains as inclusive as it can be."

The Wicketz programme - supporting young people aged eight to 19 - aims to make a lasting positive effect on those living in low socio-economic areas in Yorkshire, using cricket as the hook.

The community initiative gets children off the streets and into cricket and working on community cohesion through a number of different activities.

By establishing sustainable community cricket hubs, the Wicketz programme provides a year-round weekly cricket sessions for youngsters with a focus on developing crucial life skills.

The Headingley-based foundation runs sessions for young people in Bradford, Leeds, and Hull.

Following the award the foundation's Wicketz programme has been added to the Leeds Local Offer website, promoting the sessions to young people within this area.
